Giant Leap Childcare and Learning Centre Early Years Curriculum

Mission Statement

Giant Leap Childcare and Learning Centre was founded in 2012 and is a family-run group of nurseries determined to offer the very best in childcare, learning and fun.

We aim to provide a nursery where children, staff and parents love to be, where they feel safe enough to try new things, learn new skills, explore their environment and make new discoveries.

We want our parents to feel they can put their full trust in us to provide a warm welcoming and friendly atmosphere where children feel safe, happy and develop a love of learning

We ensure that we draw upon our knowledge of child development and a number of Early Years pedagogies, to create a learning environment which is inspiring, encouraging and where children are actively involved with their learning. We want our children to: use their own initiative, develop critical thinking, gain self-confidence and be problem-solvers.

Our staff team have a large range of knowledge and understanding of child development and pedagogical approaches to learning, this helps us to create environments that inspire children to be actively involved in their own learning. We want our children to develop critical thinking and to become problem solvers. With a wealth of staff knowledge across the setting there are ample opportunity for staff to draw upon the different skill sets of other practitioners to create environments that inspire children to be actively involved in planning their own experiences by sharing their interests, exploring through play and through strong parent partnerships.

Children’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We know that children who grow up feeling safe and happy are able to make strong attachments, feel secure and become better life-long learners.

Curriculum Aims

At Giant Leap Childcare, our curriculum is focused and centred around the individual child. By following the interests of each child, we create an environment which sparks curiosity, responsiveness and a love of learning. Our free flow indoor and outdoor approach gives children the freedom to make their own choices and to advocate for their own learning.

With an abundance of woodlands and outdoor spaces our approach to learning in a natural environment and our forest school ethos forms a good strong foundation in the development of our curriculum, where children are given opportunities to explore, appreciate and understand the natural world. Where they can take and learn to manage risks and ultimately develop a love of the great outdoors. All children have access to an enclosed safe outdoor environments alongside a safe and secure forest school area within the Giant Leap grounds.

Our curriculum focus also takes into consideration demographics, for example being in a heavily deprived area, we utilise our EYPP funds to meet the needs of those who have access to this funding, whilst also tapping into local initiatives such as Lets get Brushing tooth brushing initiative, Healthy Heroes, Aspiration 500 funding to look at narrowing the gap of children’s Personal Social and Emotional Development and Communication language which has seen a dip since the covid pandemic, working in conjunction with the local family hubs and also utilising training provided by the local authority such as Early Years Professional Development Programme.

Although this curriculum works across the setting, each room will have their own version of this that works for each room.
